Benefit Fashion Show
May 23rd
Last night’s benefit fashion show to help Maria Luise Greco Vaughn was a complete success! Hosted by MichealaTV.com‘s Michelle Davies, the swimwear fashion show raised a good amount to help out Maria and her battle w/ cancer.
As for my part, I shot just shy of 700, and flagged about half of that. I’m in the middle of getting the shots turned around for the Greco’s.
It was great to meet new friends, and see some old ones, and it was a heartwarming night, w/ friends and family showing their support, and having a good time.
As I went on the initial flagging process, I saw a lot of happy and smiling faces, and it is very touching. To also see the whole event go down as a huge success, and seeing the mastermind behind this whole thing, Jessica Greco, get a warm ovation, just makes you feel all warm and fuzzy.
Cancer has hit my family hard, so giving a hand and helping out in anyway possible made this a little bit personal for me as well.
It was also a particularly tough shoot. Hardly any light to work with, and w/ a flim crew next to me, using flash was a none option.
It was a good thing I was using Nikon’s low light beasts in the D3 and D700 w/ Nikkor 24-70 and 70-200 VR f/2.8 lenses, it made it that much more easier.
I did have to shoot at high ISO, but so far my the initial flag, the Noise I saw wasn’t too bad. (ISO-6400)
Shots to be posted soon, hopefully, in the next week.
Plant project
Mar 28th
My mom just planted some herbs and what not in a small plant thing, hoping it will grow. (She’s not exactly all green at the fingers now). This was a week ago, and, surprisingly, it started to grow. Now, having killed off my ‘WIGN‘ project, I was itching to get something new started, photography wise. This will be easier I think since I physically do not have to do anything else from now until the thing grows. Ok, well, maybe making sure the batteries are fresh, and it’s actually taking a photo.
I set my Pentax K20D on interval shooting mode, set to shoot every 24 hours at around 2 PM each day. I’ll probably most likely combine it to make a movie of sorts, to show the growth. Kinda of exciting.
I’m using a Sigma 28mm f/1.7 EX DG lens. i’ll post my settings later on, I think I’m at 1/60 @ f/8 ISO 400
Here’s the set up taken with my Nikon D700 60mm Micro Nikkor 1/60 @ f/4 ISO-200
Savings to existing.
Mar 27th
Going through my emails from yesterday, since I was out late, and well, I just passed out when I got home, anyway, reading this one I got from Fotocare, and an ad for Nikon DSLR’s and lenses. I saw this before at Calumet (and any other camera store pretty much) showing off Nikon’s deals.
Now seriously, it’s cool that you’re giving out instant savings (hell up to $400.00) on some lenses IF you buy it with a DSLR. What about us current owners. I’d love to get $400.oo off on a Nikkor 70-200mm VRII lens. I’m still broke from buying the D700, grip, SB-900 and a few other things. Seriously, it would be great if they can pass along such savings to us existing owners.
Jailbreak your DSLR…?
Mar 25th
I ran across this from one of the many ‘newsletters’ I get from various sources. This really seems interesting.
Basically, it will allow you to control your DSLR with a Nintendo DS! I did not get too in-depth with it, so I’m not sure what’s supported, features, etc, etc.

..and now for some Foto stuff

Came across this from Adorama, their newsletter, in it, a review of an interesting Ricoh Camera (GXR), and a first look at Pentax’s entry into the Digital Medium format market with a 40 MP body.
Also a review of the Olympus ‘Pen’ (which I find very sexy).

Calumet’s On-Site Background back in stock.
Mar 23rd
Calumets brilliant On-Site background system is back in stock again. These kits cost under $200.00 USD, are ultra portable, and can be set up in minutes. Great for on site portrait shoots and the like. I own one of these and they are very handy. Great for 3/4 body shots and head shots. Doesn’t quite work well on full body, but, it can be worked around quite easily.
